Ruth Cavins, Executive Director

Ruth Cavins is the proud mother of three wonderful children. She joined the Museum as a volunteer in June 2005, and became a full-time employee in September 2006. Ruth holds a B.S. in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Education. Ruth reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for planning and managing a comprehensive program to cultivate support and raise funds for the Stillwater Children's Museum and its programs. Ruth is also responsible for planning, scheduling, supervising and executing Museum Without Walls programming.

Volunteers in Service to America :

Nita Buckner
Nita Buckner joined the Stillwater Children's Museum in November 2007. Nita is the mother of four and Nana to three grandchildren. She has her Bachelors in Child Development and has always been an advocate for children.

 

 


Suzanne Buckner
Suzanne Buckner is the proud mother of Wyatt. She joined the Stillwater Children's Museum in July 2007. Suzanne has years of experience working in early childhood education and has served as Program Chair and Historian for the Arkansas Early Childhood Association.



 

Kelli Payne
Kelli Payne has served on a number of community boards and foundations in Stillwater and Guthrie and has seen the positive impact members of the community can have within an organization. Kelli is married to Charlie McLaughlin, likes to restore old boats, and spend time gardening. Kelli is responsible for fund development for the Stillwater Children's Museum.


Emily Phillips
Emily has two sweet children, Clay and Casey, and a great husband, Brandon. Emily earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a Marketing Concentration from East Central University in 2002. After graduation Emily worked as an insurance adjuster and a substitute teacher and after Clay was born, a stay at home mom. She learned of the exciting and wonderful things that the Stillwater Children’s Museum was doing through her sister where she also learned of the opportunity to work with the Museum and Smart Start Payne County through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. After meeting with Ruth Cavins, the SCM executive director and Regina Hall the executive director from Smart Start Payne County, Emily was excited for the opportunity to work with two excellent organizations that are making such a positive impact in children’s lives. Emily works with the SCM’s PR/Marketing Committee as well as Smart Start Payne County’s Public Awareness Committee. Her VISTA responsibilities include writing press releases for both organizations, maintaining the Kids Activity Calendar as well as many other duties that contribute to the continuing effort of the Stillwater Children’s Museum and Smart Start Payne County.


Museum Without Walls Facilitators
The following college students have committed to work as Museum Without Walls Facilitators for the 2008-2009 school year with payment from Financial Aid Work-Study Awards. Museum Without Walls Facilitators implement programming at child care and public school locations within Stillwater . Programming includes hands-on interaction with the students, including reading books and building literacy skills through science, math and art related projects.
